The Safety Nest Network
A San Antonio Community Collaborative
You Do Not Have to Face a Crisis Alone.
The Safety Nest Network brings together trusted San Antonio nonprofit organizations to provide trauma-informed, compassionate care and voluntary support to children and families navigating unexpected and difficult moments.
With one phone call, families and referring professionals will connect and coordinate services designed to help children remain safe while caregivers move toward stability and hope.

A caring team member will listen, learn, and help connect the family with supports across the collaborative network.
One Network. Many Partners. Various ways to Help.
No single organization can meet every need alone. Our partners work together to help children remain safe, strengthen caregivers, and connect families with services that promote stability and hope.
Sometimes they need support.
Without a safe place to turn, children experiencing a family crisis may end up in situations that aren’t designed for them, such as waiting in an emergency department, riding with first responders, or entering the child welfare system when a temporary solution could have helped stabilize the family.
Safety Nest was created to provide another option.
Our goal is to:
Protect Children
Connect children with safe, temporary, high-quality care while their caregiver addresses an urgent situation.
Support Caregivers
Meet caregivers without judgment and surround them with practical resources, family navigation, and compassionate support.
Strengthen Families
Respond to the immediate need while helping families build stability, resilience, and a hopeful path forward.
One Call Begins the Connection to Care.
Every family’s situation is unique. The process is designed to listen and coordinate supports around the individual needs of the child and caregiver.

Who is eligible?
Any family experiencing a crisis is encouraged to call. A team member will learn about the family’s individual circumstances and determine which available services may be appropriate.
Is participation voluntary?
Yes. Participation is completely voluntary. Families remain active partners in decisions about the services and support they receive.
How long can my child stay?
Depending on the child’s needs, the family’s circumstances, and available capacity, temporary care may be provided for approximately three to five days.
Can you support children with special needs or complex medical needs?
Yes. The collaborative includes organizations that specialize in serving children with disabilities, developmental differences, behavioral health needs, and complex medical conditions. The team will work to identify the safest and most appropriate care setting for each child.
Is the Safety Nest Network trauma-informed?
Yes. Trauma-informed care is woven throughout the network’s processes. Families are approached with compassion and respect, with a focus on emotional and physical safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural responsiveness.
Can another professional refer a family?
Yes. Hospitals, healthcare providers, schools, counselors, social workers, case managers, first responders, faith communities, nonprofit organizations, and other community professionals may refer a family. Families may also call directly.
Is this connected to Child Protective Services?
No. The Safety Nest Network is not a CPS program. It is a voluntary, community-based nonprofit collaborative created to support families and help prevent crises from escalating whenever safely possible.
What happens after I call?
The next steps depend on the individual needs of the child and family. A team member will listen, assess the immediate situation, and coordinate with collaborative partners to identify available services and resources. The goal is to support and strengthen the person experiencing the crisis, wrap services around the family, and help them move toward greater safety, stability, and hope.
